India is running dry of clean water
By 2030 half of the country will face water shortage, severely affecting agriculture and food production. Water pollution is killing 4 lakh Indians every year and causing an annual health burden of up to ₹600cr.
REASONS FOR THESE ISSUES
Irregular rainfall due to climate change
Depleting groundwater due to excessive use
Polluted water bodies due to rapid urbanisation
Join give.do’s mission to combat India’s water shortage
Support our NGOs working on the ground to help build & restore tubewells, water bodies & reservoirs to boost safe water supply
Support these projects to help replenish water reserves, drop by drop
Your regular donation will relieve farmers from water scarcity during cultivation and provide adequate drinking water to thousands of families
Rejuvenate lakes
Desilting lakes will provide water for agriculture and preserve groundwater. Each lake can irrigate 100 acres of land. The excavated silt also acts as fertiliser, increasing crop yields.
Harvest rainwater
Digging small ponds and pits to collect rainwater will make individual farmers less dependent on the monsoon for cultivation. One pond will irrigate 2-3 acres of land.
Protect/revive tubewells
Tubewells in low-lying areas are often inundated during heavy rain, making them unusable for populations depending on them for clean drinking water.
