Plastic pollution is choking India
Only 8% of the 24 million tonnes of plastic consumed gets recycled. The rest goes into landfills, drains and rivers, discharging hazardous chemicals into the environment.
REASONS FOR THESE ISSUES
Rapid population growth in cities
Inadequate municipal waste management
Poor awareness of harm to the environment
Join give.do’s mission to reduce garbage going to landfills
Support our NGOs working with urban communities to segregate household waste at source for recycling and ethical disposal
Support projects helping India manage its waste efficiently
Your regular donation will help reduce the volume of unsegregated garbage tipped into landfills and the hazards caused by it
Segregation at source
50% of daily household rubbish is wet. Encouraging housing societies to not mix with dry waste will help to recycle and safely manage plastics and e-waste.
Reduce organic waste
A mixture of wet and dry wastes in landfills rots and gives off toxic gases. Providing composting and other solutions will help repurpose wet waste into useful resources.
Raise awareness
As a first step towards behaviour change, conducting programmes in schools and community centres will help raise critical awareness about waste management
