Story

This project aims to spread awareness about how growing trees could improve the village environment, generating food, income, firewood, fodder and much more, while helping wildlife, biodiversity, and the global climate as well.

The significance of trees for the world climate debate is clear and well researched. Trees are the most cost-effective way to unbind CO2 and fight global warming (see Nicholas Stern 2009).

Tree planting can have a real impact, locally and even globally, trees attract rain and cool the environment. If we would succeed in doubling global tree/forest cover by 2050, most of the actual CO2 excess, caused by men, will be absorbed, and this without radically altering our lifestyles or growth prospects..

Objective: Facilitate the growing of 1, 00,000 trees in 50 villages by women, students, and youth.

Methodology: By educational campaign, starting tree nurseries, procuring seedlings, and incentivizing tree growers with certificates of recognition.

The campaign includes awareness about how growing Trees would improve the environment, generating food, income, firewood, fodder and much more while helping wildlife, biodiversity and the global climate as well.

Types of seedlings:

Fruit-bearing trees, Medicinal trees, trees providing nuts and vegetables, Nitrogen binding trees, Shade giving trees, and trees grown for timber. ( Minimum two-year-old seedlings will be arranged to ensure survival rate).

Location of the Tree Growing: 50 villages (25 in Pudukottai District. 25 in Trichy District). Areas of the plantation would be the Home garden, Agriculture land, School/college campus, primary health centre/hospital campus, Temple, Church, and Mosque campus.

Tree Growers:    The passionate tree growers in the proposed location from 12 years of age will be selected. Their willingness and availability of resources LIKE water, fencing, and manure will be assessed.

Incentivizing: Since volunteer tree growing campaigns are usually lacking in follow-up, an incentive activity has been planned for growing a minimum of 5 trees and a maximum of 50 trees. This is to boost their morale and recognize their contribution to mother earth. It will be presented as a reward in a public function.

Implement Period: Three years.

Expected impact: This MISSION wants to try out a new concept of empowering rural women, youth and students educationally by means of awareness and economically by means of earning income from agro-forestry products. The long-term result would be the impact on climate change.
