People from the marginalised communities suffer endlessly owing to their poverty. Whether it is a pandemic situation or a natural calamity, they’re always the worst hit. It is because most of them depend upon their daily wages. In times of distress, more often than not, such jobs are lost. On the other hand, people living in the villages lose their harvest every time there’s a flood, heavy rain, or storm. Their lives are unimaginably painful regardless of the situation.
Neither they live in a healthy environment nor do they have proper nutrition. On most days, they sleep on a hungry stomach. This often leads their kids and the elders towards malnourishment.
Imagine these people being hit with the COVID-19 pandemic! Imagine what all they might have had to go through all these days during the lockdown!
It is believed that the urban poor communities namely, the migrant workers, slum dwellers, daily wage labourers, etc. were the most impacted. As soon as the lockdown was declared, they were out of work. Thousands of them were stranded in the city without a place to live in. And when they set out to leave for their hometowns, the borders were closed as well.
Hemkunt Foundation has served over 2 Lakhs of cooked meals and distributed 250+ tonnes of dry ration to these people during this time. They reached out to the vulnerable communities in Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir. They also served the marginalised Muslim communities with fresh fruit and vegetables during Ramadan this year.
The lockdown might have ended in most cities and some of these people may have gone back to work. However, thousands of families are still suffering due to no income. The street vendors, construction labourers, househelps, security guards, restaurant workers, etc. have no means of survival. Their families are starving. With the pandemic situation worsening in many states, they’re doubtful of a better future as well.
These people need our help. The pandemic has left them in the lurch. But we shouldn’t.
Hemkunt Foundation believes in the popular Sikh principle of “Sarbat Da Bhala” i.e. welfare for all. The team strives to support the distressed and needy people. They offer disaster relief, livelihoods to the marginalised, access to basic human rights, and education to the deprived. The NGO has been feeding over 45,000 marginalised people everyday during this difficult time. With your help, they can do more and bring better changes to the lives of the needy.
A grocery and sanitation kit can help these marginalised communities keep going for days. It contains the essentials for healthy and nutritious meals. When you sponsor a kit, you save a family from starvation. Their plights are endless. But it is in your hands to give them hope for a better future. You can support them until the time is much better. Your kindness can ensure their wellbeing during this difficult time.
Let’s join hands and help Hemkunt Foundation end their starvation for once and all.
