In India, NSSO reported that a total of 1,40,85,000, and 44,06,000 people are disabled in rural and urban areas, respectively. Overall, 1846 and 1499 per lakh population had any type of disability during the survey in rural and urban areas respectively. As per Census 2011, in India, out of the 121 Cr population, about 2.68 Cr persons are 'disabled' which is 2.21% of the total population.
There are currently 0.11 million amputees in India that have suffered below-elbow limb loss and almost 16500 people added about every year. Nearly 15-20% of the total physically handicapped children suffer from Cerebral Palsy (CP). For India, the estimated incidence is around 3/1000 live births; however, being a developing country, the expected actual figure may be much higher.
Kiwanis Club of New Delhi is providing free Artificial Limb and Orthosis & Prosthesis Appliance to the differently able people who are suffering from polio, Cerebral Palsy and amputees. Till now we provided more than 40,000 limbs and other assistive devices to needy people for free of cost. Kiwanis Club is also providing artificial limbs to India Army at Nowshera, J&K.
We are providing 200 to 250 limbs in a month. Our target is to provide 450 to 500 limbs in a month for FY-2021-22. We have a special Centre named "Kiwanis Artificial Limb Centre" at New Delhi, Where we made customized limbs for patients also we provide GATE training to them. We'll organize a free camp in rural areas, where we can approach the rural community. We are looking for the fund which we can utilize to make it possible.
By this project, we would be able to help the differently-abled people who have lost their hope of life. By the help of Artificial Limbs, they would be able to survive and live with dignity. It will also help them to be employed. In India, It's such a big problem for differently-abled people. We provide our services to them with a very easy processing system. Since 1999 we are working in this field and we have a specialized team to prepare it as per people's need. Day to day monitoring and evaluation is the part of this project. We work for quality not for the quantity that's why the quality of limbs is quite good as compared to other service providers.
