To provide quality education in English medium to the children of the musahar community drawn from various remote villages of almost all the district of Bihar. SSS runs a fully free English medium residential school at Patna for the children of the musahar community to achieve its objective. The students at the school are not only given free boarding, lodging and tuition but also clothes including uniforms, text-books, stationery, toiletries, medical-care and all other necessities
Shoshit Seva Sangh runs a fully free English medium residential school for the poorest of the poor, the children of the musahar community of Bihar. Musahars population is said to be around 35 lacs and they are primarily landless agricultural labourers living in designated ghettoes in the outskirts of almost all the villages of Bihar. They provide cheap agricultural labour. Due to meagre and seasonal income most families are caught in a debt trap. The musahars are, perhaps, the most exploited and deprived community not only in Bihar but in India. Their living conditions are undoubtedly a national shame. Rural economic developments since independence has, by and large, bypassed them and unfortunately they are not a part of the growth story of India since 1947. Literacy level among them is said to be 5% and education, ofcourse, is a far cry. Quality education, perhaps, is the only ladder that could be given to him to climb the socio economic pyramid of the society they live in. Education will enable them to make a quantum jump in life and not only change living conditions of their families but, in due course, the entire musahar community. What has not happened in the past 3000 years may be achieved in 2 or 3 decades. This is the silent revolution Shoshit Seva Sangh aspires to deliver.
The methodology of the project is to provide high quality education in a fully free English medium residential school to the children of the musahar community of Bihar. Presently, there are over 500 students in the school. 100 students in the age group of 7-8 are admitted every year in the pre-school class. As there is minimum literacy in this community and state of affairs of rural schools leaves much to be desired, it is necessary to take students in the pre-school class in order to ensure that they have a good foundation in education as then and then alone they will be able to absorb quality education in the English medium. The education programme of Shoshit Seva Sangh is perhaps, unique, not only in India but in the worlds as its provide quality education to a deprived child almost from cradle to adulthood when he graduates to take up a job.
