Let India Play!

Bihar is the poorest state in India. Funds and other resources are scarce, meaning that sports and games for children do not even feature on the list for most parents. Especially in the rural areas of Bihar, a girl is hardly ever seen playing even casually – an organized sport for girls is completely out of question. Even if these children do manage to play some sport, it’s the first thing to be given up to accommodate all other activities – exams, marriage, a dip in household income, relatives visiting etc.

Prarambhika Education Trust runs a CBSE affiliated school in the rural area, since 2014, which is 20 km from the heart of the city, Patna, Bihar.

We aim to give a genuine opportunity to the poorest of students especially girls and raise awareness about organized sports and encourage participation at the grassroots level for girls and boys.

• Our intent is to help build a robust ecosystem for all such students so that the growth in realized potential from Bihar is tangible. We have initiated a sports complex at our school which can give an opportunity to the children of weaker socio-economic backgrounds. We have been able to make a cricket/football field from the donation we have raised from friends and family so far.

The impact on a student’s life and the entire village will be positively tangible if we are able to get even a few of these students to participate in sports on a state and national level.  Not only will it foster confidence and self–reliance, we believe it will change the way sports, (especially for girls) is viewed in the rural areas of Bihar. We believe it will change the way girls are discriminated against in this state. Apart from a wholesome and resilient body, we are sure this will lead to a very healthy and strong mind and life as well.
