PETA India’s Work to End Animal Suffering and Promote Cruelty-Free Living

PETA India to operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way, while also educating policymakers and the public about animal abuse and promoting an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.

PETA India focuses primarily on the areas in which the greatest numbers of animals suffer the most: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the leather trade, and in the entertainment business, and have dedicated campaigns to reduce suffering of animals in all of these areas. We currently have far more opportunities to help animals than we have financial resources.

PETA India’s investigations, public education efforts, research, animal rescues, legislative work, special events, celebrity involvement, and national media coverage have resulted in countless improvements to the quality of life for animals and have saved countless animals’ lives. 

1) PETA India’s Emergency Response Team: To help pay for trained emergency response, cruelty cases, veterinary staff, and sterilisation expenses as well as food, medicine, and other treatment expenses for ill or injured animals.

2) Promoting Non-Animal Tests and Ending Animal Suffering in Laboratories: To support PETA India’s scientists and campaigners; expenses to meet regulators, companies, and researchers; and outreach expenses, including workshops to train regulators and other scientists in non-animal methods. 

3) To support our campaigns to stop cruelty to animals used for food, funding would support the staff who carry out investigative work and pay for billboards and other advertisements, printing of resources, demonstrations, outreach for plant based food, other events, and more.

4) Promoting Animal-Free Fashion: Funding would support the staff who carry out this work, help place billboards and ads, pay for printing of resources that support this campaign, and help meet other needs. 

5) Ending Cruelty to Animals Used for Entertainment: Funding would support the staff who carry out this work, investigations documenting cruelty, online campaigns, billboards, and advertisements pressuring authorities to act and/or calling on the public to shun entertainment involving live animals. 

1) In a year, the Emergency Response Team responds to more than 90,000 calls. More than 3,000 cases required treatment by PETA India’s veterinary staff. Over 300 animals were treated for minor conditions on the spot and immediately released, while 151 required hospitalisation. More than 2,600 calls involved animal abuse. Funding will help strengthen this team 

2) PETA scientists, including from PETA India and other PETA entities, have developed a strategy to advance medical and scientific progress and to end animal testing

3) To be able to conduct more investigations into farms, slaughter houses and wet markets, these investigations are vital to bringing about policy-level change and awareness. 

4) To be able to promote animal free fashion. Our creative celebrity ads and billboards help urge people to shun clothing that is the result of animal suffering.

5) Animals across India are suffering for human entertainment. A PETA India study revealed that more than 100 horses used to pull tourist carriages in Kolkata are anaemic, malnourished, and chronically starved; funding will support in rescuing and rehabilitating these animals.
