Support families hit by lockdown due to COVID-19 in Malwani

We are educators working in the area of Malwani, the second biggest slum in Mumbai. As a lockdown is in effect, the parents of our kids who are mostly daily wage workers, like rickshaw and taxi drivers, mall workers, maids, street vendors and others in the unorganized sector are unable to go to work and in turn not able to provide even for the basic needs of the family.

We would be distributing ration packets for a family of 4-6 members for 2 weeks, who have been hit by the short-term closure of businesses. It will have the following items

10 Kg Rice

5 Kg Aata

1 Kg Sugar

1 Kg Masoor daal

1 Kg Tuwar daal 

250 gm Tea powder

1 Kg Oil

100 gm Haldi powder 

100 gm Mirchi powder

1 Dettol soap

Each packet costs about Rs1250.

We will make sure all safety precautions are taken by the volunteers distributing the ration, so that the virus doesn't spread.

We hope we can support the most economically vulnerable families in Malwani and help them to go through the lockdown period with starving. Getting regular food will also make sure that their immunity system is strong and they don't fall prey to any disease.
