Story

Vijaya was around 70 years old and a street in Avadi, Chennai was her home. Abandoned by family, she had no roof to call home and no means of survival. The police had warned her to move on. Residents had complained. Nobody wanted to touch what they saw as somebody else's problem. Then someone called Anbagam. The rescue team from the NGO arrived. There was a complication: Vijaya refused to leave without her puppies. The team found homes for each one. Then they brought Vijaya in. Today she is healthy, comfortable, and happy.

This is what Anbagam does. It meets people exactly where they are, asks nothing of them except to come, and gives them something most of us take entirely for granted: a safe place to be.

But without your support this safe haven for the elderly might not even exist. Be the pillar of support this old age home needs. Donate generously!

A life-long mission

Since 1999, Mohammed Rafi, a small businessman from Parry's in Chennai, has been doing this work. He started by housing people in his own home. When that filled up, he built more. Today, Anbagam runs three homes across Chennai and Thiruvallur, caring for 400 residents: mentally ill, elderly, abandoned, forgotten.

Running this for 400 people costs money. Food alone costs roughly Rs 4 lakh every month. Medicines and psychiatric care cost approximately Rs 1 lakh a month. Add staff, a doctor, cleaning, bedding, and clothing, and the annual operating cost across all three homes comes to around Rs 77 lakh.

Your contribution means a warm meal, a comfortable bed and necessary medical treatment for an abandoned elderly grandparent. Support Now!

Impact beyond numbers

Over 7,000 people have walked through Anbagam's doors. Around 3,000 have been reunited with families across India. The rest stay, because Anbagam is the family they have now.

Mohammed Rafi said it simply:

“Share your happiness with the people who are here. Help them!”
