Comprehensive Day Care Programmes

In lieu of better working conditions, a vast majority of the population working in the unorganised sector choose to migrate within the country. Migrants in urban India form a large majority of the work force in the unorganised sectors where they work as construction workers, electricians, plumbers, masons, security personnel, etc. These migrant labourers are usually the most vulnerable and marginalised of the urban poor. Because of the issues like- lack of housing facilities, low wages, expensive housing, overcrowding and a lot more, the migrants are marginalised even further. Children of migrant construction workers are even more vulnerable. Because of the extreme poverty of their families, their parents are constantly working and thus, these children are left to fend for themselves. They suffer from malnutrition, undernourishment, accidents, innumerable health problems and are deprived of formal schooling, day care centres or any sort of support system. 

MMC adopts a multi-pronged approach to address these issues. We run a comprehensive programme of health, education and nutrition through our day care centres on construction sites to tackle the wide range of issues that surround the children of migrant construction workers.

Our comprehensive day care centres-

• Support the intellectual, emotional and physical development of young children and create the foundations required for mainstreaming them into schools.
• Help older children enter in schools and perform well by freeing them from the burden of child care.
• Support the working mothers by reassuring them that her children are safe and looked after.
• Provide guidance and support to parents on appropriate nutrition, education, health and care, along with several relevant issues of the community.
