Covid Relief for Elderly

With the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, each individual across the world is at risk of being exposed to the virus. Unfortunately, some groups are at a higher risk than others, and those are the senior citizens. Grey Shades recognises the magnitude of this pandemic and its effects on the lives of our Senior Citizens. 

To provide some relief during this nationwide lockdown, Grey Shades is providing assistance to the senior citizens in the following ways:

1) Door-Step Delivery of Essentials:

Many senior citizens live by themselves and even basic activities like shopping for groceries or buying medicines poses a serious risk to their health in the COVID-19 situation. Moreover, their children who are their main support system live in different parts of the country/world thus leaving the seniors with no option but to venture out in public spaces.

In order to help reduce or even eliminate the senior’s exposure to the outside world during the pandemic, Grey Shades has built a network of 500+ young volunteers across the Tricity ( Chandigarh, Mohali & Panchkula) wherein the volunteers on behalf of the elderly purchase essential items from supermarkets and chemists and deliver them to the doorstep of seniors.

2) Counselling Services: 

The uncertain nature of this pandemic has led to almost everyone going through a difficult time. We have noticed that the senior citizens are not just vulnerable but have started facing more psychological and emotional insecurities. 

To help them get through these trying times, Grey Shades is providing free dedicated help from trained counsellors and the seniors can make use of these services over phone calls and video calls.

Additionally, if seniors need help understanding the COVID-19 situation and the spread of the virus, we are also addressing their concerns and queries about the same.

3) Virtual Engagement: 

With the lockdown, we have all been confined to our homes and this has taken a toll on everyone. The senior citizens are struggling with loneliness and boredom thus leading to helplessness and frustration, which in turn is negatively affecting their health. To help make the situation better we have curated modules and sessions on art, dance, yoga, nutrition and many more for the senior citizens to help them stay engaged and maintain a healthy routine while staying at home through virtual mediums. Our intent is to boost their morale through creative activities and provide a sense of community. 

Grey Shades is working in alignment with the efforts of the Government Administration in Chandigarh, Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana). We at Grey Shades are committed to serving the interests of the elderly at all costs. We shall continue with these initiatives in these unprecedented times and are open to receiving help from people like you, in whichever way you choose to support us.

We have ensured that more than 100 families/elderly have managed to stay safe since the outbreak of COVID -19 by timely doorstep delivery of essentials like medicines, groceries and essential dietary supplements

We are providing complimentary services across the Tricity: Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula where thousands of senior citizens are living alone.

We will make sure that through the crisis, senior citizens are being provided with the special care and attention required for their health and safety.
