The prevalence of avoidable blindness is 1% in the catchment area due to lack of comprehensive eye care service.10 million population suffering from eye diseases like cataract, refractive errors, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy & childhood blindness due to lack of outreach programme. Main causes of blindness are as follows: - Cataract (62.6%) Refractive Error (19.70%) Corneal Blindness (0.90%), Glaucoma (5.80%), Surgical Complication (1.20%) Posterior Capsular Opacification (0.90%) Posterior Segment Disorder (4.70%), Others (4.19%) Estimated National Prevalence of Childhood Blindness /Low Vision is 0.80 per thousand.
Insufficient reach out program in the catchment area for detection of eye disease due to lack of active participations of the secondary stakeholders.
Less eye care personnel are trained in various eye care activities.
Eye health education material is not available in the market for creating awareness in the community.
20% population has some visual problem due to lack of medical services in the catchment area.
The objective of the project is:
· To generate awareness in the community about prevention and precautions to be taken for eye care.
· To organize screening camps in rural areas for the poor where accessing such a service is difficult and unaffordable.
· Identify older persons who are in need of surgery to restore their vision.
· Provide for post-operative and follow-up care.
· Restoring dignity and improve quality of life.
The project services are and will be made accessible and affordable to the poor by effective reach out plan. Reach out program in the reachable area. In Our ‘Reach out a proper schedule will be prepared to bring the patients to base hospital. We will bring 30 - 40 cases per trip to operate them with IOL and drop them back to their places. Those who are poor given free service.
This project will ensure good quality of vision thereby giving women opportunity along with men to give their best at home, do the job and help others. Women are given equal opportunity in the project. The organization believes in Gender parity in both staff & beneficiary.
The children and adults are the primary stakeholders who will directly benefit from the proposed project activities. The secondary stakeholders are school teachers, managers of eye unit, and parents & relatives of the patients who will indirectly benefit from the proposed project activities as the treated patient will become independent and would help the family.
The local Community will help to create awareness in the community. Local community will help to organize local diagnostic camps in the catchment area. There resources will be used for diagnostic eye camps activity like publicity, transport or camp team and local hospitality. It will indirectly help to reach out to remote areas.
