Education is a right of every child. But we see children are forced into menial jobs, begging , rag picking. Many such children are also sexually abused, get into habits like drugs, robbery etc due to their family background and circumstances. . As part of its work, Sparsha Trust identifies children who are school dropouts, drug-addicts, beggars, rag pickers, or are victims of exploitation and facilitates the process of their rescue and rehabilitation.
· Till date, through our Child Care, Child Protection and Child Development programmes, about 8000 children have benefited and 3000 children have been enrolled in schools. We prevented about 55 cases of child marriage in the last three years. Many of the children of our initial batches are now doing post graduation.
·
As per the Juvenile Justice Board’s regulations, boys and girls over 13 years of age cannot be kept in the same facility. As a result, about 300 boys in various child care facilities managed by Sparsha Trust need to be relocated to a common residential facility
· At present, we are in the process of rehabilitating the boys in various care and residential facilities of Sparsha Trust to Makkala Dhama at Devanahalli. The preparatory work for Makkala Dhama is in progress.
·Makkala Dhama is targeted to be completed by 2021 and will be a fully residential center for 300+ boys
Children neglected by their parents have a safe place to live, study & progress, a great benefit to single-parent families or those families where the mother is the sole bread winner, while rights of the children are protected.
Children are engaged in productive activities, migrant families live in harmony, children become socially sensitive & respectful towards elders & women, & are inculcated with positive values & discipline.
Reduction in anti-social activities in the communities, children & youth get entry level employment either in the airport, or in the companies around the airport. Children from migrant families & local children get to know about different cultures, thereby preserving cultures & developing mutual respect for one another.
The life-cycle of social support to children & youth from very poor families completes a full cycle. As the children are supported by public at a critical time of their lives, they will grow up & contribute to the society, & to the organizations supporting them.
The children & youth will grow up to be qualified to get proper sustainable jobs, thereby protecting themselves from forced under-employment. On the other h&, companies will get a skilled & motivated work force for their company
