What do all these social causes have in common?
The common answer is strong and passionate volunteer leaders who are focused on the betterment of society through their work on social causes.
According to a report from the ministry of statistics, only 1.5% of India’s population volunteers for some activity or the other. One of the key findings of the survey was that interested individuals had the urge to be socially responsible but they do not know the avenues to look for volunteering opportunities. To overcome this deficit, there is the requirement for a PLATFORM that enables and mentors these interested individuals to become volunteer leaders.
Volunteer for India has envisioned VOLSHIP as a platform to bring together individuals across India who are passionate about volunteering. VOLSHIP, an acronym for VOLunteer leaderSHIP, is a Fellowship program where Individual volunteer leaders explore, experiment with and implement dynamic solutions to pertinent social issues within the communities they belong to.
Through this fellowship, these individuals gain a pan-India perspective of the issue with the help of other fellows from across India and structure impact-driven projects with defined short-term and long-term goals under the guidance of experts from the social sector. These volunteer leaders then enable individuals from the same community to volunteer for the project, create awareness among the community members and in the process create an ecosystem that tackles these social issues at the grassroots.
Over the past three years, our volunteer leaders and their teams have been working towards betterment in equal education, menstrual Hygiene, basic sanitation, healthcare, women's safety, infrastructure, LGBTQIA+ equality, waste management, disaster management, and also prevention of child marriages, child sexual abuse, drug addiction.
Over the past 3 years, Volunteer for India has capacitated 6 cohorts of Volship, with 387 Volunteer Leaders from the length and breadth of the country. They have implemented over 91 projects in 5 cities across India. This community of leaders have also enabled over 28000 individuals to volunteer for their cities and contribute to the change by impacting 1,20,000+ individuals across India.
By the end of 2025, VFI is targeting to reach 200 cities, 20000 volunteers and 200000 beneficiaries across India, upholding volunteerism as a common value.
VFI is moving towards a larger goal of creating self-sustaining volunteer communities within which the volunteers themselves emerge as leaders who can empower a wider population to volunteer on all pressing social issues within their community. Volunteer for India aims to make this social impact dream a reality across all cities by creating increased volunteering opportunities, which in turn gets the organization closer to its goal of "Volunteerism as a national value."
