Help under-served children to succeed in the age of AI

Artificial Intelligence is evolving at an astonishing pace, and it has a huge potential to propel humanity to newer heights. If directed towards beneficial pursuits, it can do wonders such as finding cure to cancer, fighting climate change & searching for extraterrestrial life. If we don't pay attention to its unintended risks though, it can pose some serious concerns such as exponential rise in misinformation, social tensions, biased algorithms & digital dictatorships.

These unintended consequences of AI would push marginalised people to further disadvantage as digital divide makes it hard for them to be in decision making positions of these advancements which in turn makes these technologies even more biased in nature.

Looking at these circumstances, we have chosen to work with the under-served children who are going to suffer the most. We believe that these children can turn these upheavals into opportunities. We are building a program that will enable them to harness the power of technology for designing a beneficial & just future. We fondly call this program - THE labs (Technology, Humanities, Entrepreneurship labs).

THE labs program will help under-served children in grade 5 to 10 in -

• Mastering technology - because technology is power & it is important that they develop deeper understanding of it to find their representation in the tech world.
• Developing a deep sense of empathy & ethics so that they learn to critically evaluate technology for its consequences on humanity & spread the movement of tech for good.
• Developing entrepreneurial skills to navigate in the uncertain future of professions & leverage technology for solving issues in local contexts.

We are building this through The Circle Incubation. we have already secured a grant of INR 1.25 lakh through them and need a matching grant of INR 1.25 lakh through this campaign so that we can use the entire amount (INR 2.5 lakh) towards designing this program.

Using this grant, we will host workshops with educators & experts in various domains including AI/ML, Science Journalism, Math, History, Political Science, Entrepreneurship, etc. These workshops will help us to design a program which can be tested through a 6-month pilot.

Following would be the outcomes of these workshops -

• Competency frameworks
• Lesson plans
• Baseline & endline assessments
• Pilot execution plan
