From Trash to Treasure: Empowering Students Against Plastic

L to D is a service learning program designed to provide students with a holistic and immersive experience that combines education (Learn), hands-on activities (Do), and reflection. The program comprises of distinct phases, with each contributing to the overall development of the students and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment. 

Objectives of the next Service Learning Cycle:

1. Educate: Equip students with comprehensive knowledge about plastic pollution and its environmental consequences.
2. Engage: Inspire students to take tangible action through the creation of a thought-provoking plastic art installation.
3. Empower: Position students as change agents, encouraging community awareness and fostering a collective commitment to reducing plastic consumption.

In collaboration with Walk For Plastic, a Chennai-based collective, the school students are building a thought provoking plastic art installation to set up at Shivan park, KK Nagar, Chennai. Gowtham, founder of Walk For Plastic, will be leading the Walk and in creating the installation. The campaign by students will be led by Sai Swetha, a Bhumi Fellow. 

A captivating plastic art installation will not only tap into the creative potential of the students but also serves as a powerful medium to communicate the gravity of plastic pollution to the community. Through their artistic expressions, students convey impactful messages, encouraging the community to reconsider their plastic consumption habits. 

Fund Required: (Expected Cost: 80,000 INR)

1. Setting up the installation : 50,000 INR
2. Refreshments : 15,000 INR
3. Miscellaneous Expenses (Transport, Stationaries etc) : 15,000 INR
