Story

691 People. 684 Children. One Shared Promise.

As India prepares for its Census, around 80 lakh migrant children will be living between two addresses.

Between one village and another.

Between one school and the next.

For many children, migration does not simply mean changing homes. It means interrupted learning, delayed enrolment, missing records, and sometimes losing their connection to education altogether.

Not because they lack potential.

Not because they do not want to learn.

But because no system consistently follows them when they move.

Migration may be temporary. The education loss it causes can last a lifetime.

Every year, thousands of children move with their families in search of work. As they cross districts and states, many slip through the cracks of the education system. A child who was enrolled in school yesterday may find themselves disconnected from learning tomorrow simply because their family migrated.

A child's future should not depend on their postal address.

At Learning Initiatives for India (LIFI), we are working to ensure that migration does not interrupt a child's education.

Over the last six years, we have worked alongside migrant communities to understand migration patterns, support children's learning journeys, and build systems that help children remain visible to the education system wherever they go.

This year, we aim to support 684 migrant children through their migration journeys.

Our work focuses on identifying where children migrate, tracking their movement across locations, connecting with organisations and communities that can support them at destination sites, and ensuring they remain connected to learning despite relocation.

What Success Looks Like

For us, success is not measured by the number of meetings conducted or records collected.

Success is a child who continues learning despite migration.

By the end of this campaign, we will share:

• How many children were successfully tracked during migration.

• How many children were connected to support systems at destination locations.

• How many children remained connected to education despite relocation.

Because every child who remains in education is one less child lost in transition.

Why This Matters

When a child migrates, the challenge is not simply moving from one place to another. The challenge is ensuring that the child does not disappear from the education system in the process.

Education is one of the few pathways that can break cycles of poverty and vulnerability. Yet for migrant children, access to education is often determined by mobility rather than potential.

We believe this is not just an education challenge. It is a matter of justice.

No child should lose access to learning because their family had to move in search of work.

How Your Support Helps

Supporting migrant children requires more than a one-time intervention.

Your contribution helps us build and sustain a system that follows children through migration, strengthens partnerships across locations, supports community-based responses, and enables continuous tracking of children's educational journeys.

Funds raised through this campaign will help us:

• Map and track children's migration journeys.

• Connect children with organisations and communities at destination locations.

• Strengthen systems and technology that support educational continuity.

• Enable teams to coordinate, monitor, and follow up with children throughout the migration cycle.

Together, these efforts help ensure that migration does not become a reason for educational exclusion.

One Shared Promise

To make this possible, we need to raise ₹20,02,000.

We are looking for 691 individuals to contribute approximately ₹2,900 each.

A child's address may change.

Their education shouldn't.

Your contribution can help ensure that a migrant child remains connected to learning, no matter where their journey takes them.

Contribute today. Help keep a child connected to education.
