Story

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit India hard and has created struggles beyond what we could have ever imagined. Among the worst-affected by the nation’s fight against the deadly virus are the daily wage workers, migrant laborers and other vulnerable communities who have lost their jobs due to the extended lockdowns imposed to curb the spread of the virus. No doubt it will take many months or maybe even years to restore their livelihoods and reach self-sufficiency. For now, they live in poverty, struggling through an indefinite and uncertain time, waiting for the next relief to come their way so they can feed their families.

We are seeing suffering and desperation. The poor are hungry, helpless, scared and agitated. We cannot neglect them during.

Waasta is working hard to ensure that hungry people are fed so that they don’t end up as “collateral damage” in this fight against COVID-19. The government has been working towards relief but the task at hand is huge considering the large population. We are working to aid and supplement the efforts of the government and local administration.

Waasta has over the past month travelled to rural villages, urban slums, plantations, forests and the hills providing ration supply and sanitary kits to daily wages and other vulnerable groups. As the lockdown has extended another month the suffering is only increasing more.

There is DIRE NEED and the need is growing. We are doing all we can but we need your support. We are counting on you to help those who can't help themselves in these critical times. No amount is too big or too small. Please do not hesitate to offer a helping hand.

What actions are we taking in this fight against COVID-19?

-       We are distributing essential ration and sanitary kits to families of daily wage workers and others in need.

-       We are distributing Personal Protect Equipment (PPE) and Disinfectants to Medical facilities, community workers and volunteers

-       We are producing tailored reusable face masks for free distribution.

-       We are creating awareness about prevention, hygiene, social distancing, isolation and combating stigma.

-       We are having disinfectant drives for sanitisation of localities.

Those in need will be fed. No hunger! No starvation!

Citizens will be safe and protected.

Medical facilities will be well better equipped.

Waasta has so far distributed:

-       +45,000kgs of food supply

-       20,000 3-ply surgical masks
