Spark a Future: Help a Child Discover Who They Can Become

By Anahata UNITED EFFORTS Foundation
Story

Young people are making informed choices and are paving ahead in their futures.

Mallikarjun is a Class 9 student, studying in a government rural residential school. He comes from a farming family and is a first generation learner.

He is already asking the questions most people ask years later - What am I interested in? What could I become? What should I study?

He discovered an aspiration, of becoming an astronaut ; understood a pathway towards it, and enrolled himself in a space camp on scholarship.

Shubhapradha’s journey began at Puttenahalli Government School, where she had little clarity about what she wanted to do after Class 10. During her class 9, she discovered the banking and financial services sector and began to see how education could connect to a real career. With growing confidence and strong support from her father, she chose PUC Commerce and is now pursuing B.Com, having scored 93% in her second-year finals. Today, she is moving steadily towards her aspiration of building a career in banking.

Different contexts, common aspirations. Students to Professionals (S2P).

What made the difference was not a one-time counselling session or a chance exposure, but a systematic and structured career-planning journey embedded in their schools and facilitated by trained teachers. It sparked curiosity about the world of careers, turned that curiosity into aspiration, and empowered young people to make informed choices and take action towards their futures.

Mallikarjun and Shubhapradha are not alone. They are among the students who have received structured career planning support in their schools from their teachers.

We are proud to see our alumni moving from students with questions to young adults with direction, confidence and purpose.

Lakhs of students sit in classrooms right at the age when choices start to matter - but for most, the link between what they study and what they could become stays invisible.

Anahata United Efforts Foundation is working to change this status quo through the Students to Professionals (S2P) Career Planning Program through the Subject Integrated Career Exposure (SICE) approach from Class 8 to Class 12.

Workbooks from Class 8 to Class 12 which goes in the hand of every child acting as an anchor.

Structured Career Planning program delivered by trained school teachers empowering students to take action, building aspiration through creating curiosity and awareness about the self and sectors.

We work as a knowledge partner to the Government of Karnataka to enable the ecosystem that lets the state itself deliver career planning as a public good.

What your donation strengthens

contribution supports in

  • Equipping Teachers to become career mentors, with structured workbooks and facilitation training
  • Establishing Career Guidance Cells at the taluk and district level
  • Enabling Career Melas that connect students directly with sectors and institutions
  • Setting up Career Walls in schools, so career information is visible every day, not just once a year.
  • Designing monitoring and impact-communication systems, like the Career Maturity Index, so the state can track whether students are actually becoming more ready to decide their futures - and keep improving the system that helps them.

We are working across the state of Karnataka with this project. On average, this work costs about ₹211 to extend the system to one more student for a year, and about ₹40,000 to bring it to an entire school.

Maybe the next Shubhapradha is sitting in a classroom today

She didn't need someone to choose her future for her. She needed a teacher equipped to ask the right questions, and a system built to support the answer.

Donate today - help us build the systems that make career guidance a public good, not a privilege.e.
