Help us build a community kitchen and provide daily food support for 20 tribal children for one complete learning year.
What happens when a child comes to a learning space, but their everyday life is filled with questions much bigger than learning?
Where will the next meal come from?
Will there be enough food at home today?
Will I have to go with my mother again to ask for food?
Some of the children we work with go door to door with their mothers to ask for food and money. Some come from families where parents spend most of their day working and managing everyday responsibilities, leaving very little time or resources to focus on their children's nutrition.
We don't want to define these children by what they lack.
They are curious. They love to explore, make things, ask questions, learn, and discover something new every day.
But curiosity also needs nourishment.
Sometimes, learning begins with something as simple as a child feeling cared for, having enough to eat, and knowing that there will be a meal when they come to the learning centre.
That is what we want to create at Swapnisthan.
Swapnisthan is a community-rooted learning space in rural Udaipur, Rajasthan, currently working with 20 tribal children aged 6 to 12.
We are creating a learning environment where children learn through experience, exposure, and exploration; connect with nature and their community; create things; work on real projects; ask questions; and develop the confidence to express themselves.
We believe children already carry curiosity, imagination, and many natural abilities. Our role is to create an environment where these can grow.
And food is an important part of that environment.
Our learning centre runs six days a week, Monday to Saturday. We want to provide every child with: Breakfast • Lunch • Evening snacks & tea
Food will be provided for around 25 learning days every month, throughout one learning year.
A functional kitchen will allow us to prepare food regularly and safely, while also creating opportunities for children to learn about food, farming, nutrition, waste and community.
We are not just building a kitchen. We are building a small everyday system of care around learning.
For each child, the cost of providing all three daily food servings — breakfast, lunch, and evening snacks/tea — is approximately ₹80 per child per day.
For 20 children, across 25 learning days a month and 12 months, this comes to approximately ₹4,80,000 for food ingredients for one learning year.
Along with food, we also need a person to prepare and serve the meals, and essential equipment to make our kitchen functional.
One-year requirement NeedCost
Food ingredients — ₹80 × 20 children × 25 days × 12 months ₹4,80,000
Cook/Helper — ₹10,000 × 12 months ₹1,20,000
Kitchen equipment & materials ₹1,70,000
Total ₹7,70,000
₹500 Food for one child for about 6 days
₹2,500 Food for one child for about 31 days
₹5,000 Food for one child for about 62 days
₹25,000 A significant contribution towards food, kitchen equipment or cook/helper support
These are indicative calculations based on an estimated food ingredient cost of ₹80 per child per day for three servings. Contributions are pooled across the campaign and may be used according to the centre's actual needs.
20 children. One learning centre. One year of nourishment.
