A Building of Our Own

Children's Smart Centre (CSC), an Initiative of Shishur Sevay, is a free, inclusive, community playschool in Panchabatitola, Kolkata, inspired by the dreams of the girls raised at Shishur Sevay. They wanted to give the underprivileged children the learning and care that they had received growing up at Shishur Sevay. CSC was established in 2000, but due to COVID-19 lockdowns, it could not open its doors until April 2022. These young women of Shishur Sevay manage and teach at the school. Two with cerebral palsy are junior teachers, and one uses the Tobii eye tracker to read stories to the children. Shishur Sevay was the first in India to adopt this technology.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2019 assumes that a child's education and development until the age of 3 takes place at home. However, in the underprivileged part of the community, this is a myth. At Children's Smart Centre (CSC), we aim to bridge this gap by providing Early Childhood Care and Education to the underprivileged children of the community.

The Need of the Hour

After the COVID-19 lockdowns, Children's Smart Centre (CSC) is now facing its second biggest hurdle. The property we rent for the school is up for sale!

The location of the school is ideal for its a short walking distance from Shishur Sevay and because the building is wheelchair accessible. This is a primary requirement for any inclusive facility.

We need your help to raise enough funds to purchase this property so we can continue our service to the community and expand our program.

Our Future Plans:

1. A Mother-Baby Program
2. Remedial Classes and Coaching Centre
3. Expand the school.
