Story

In India, there are approximately 20 million* children who do not receive adequate parental care support as they are orphaned or are at a risk of losing their family. This is estimated to rise to 24.35 million by the year 2021.The total number of orphans stands at 1.27 million, which would be 1.49 million by the year 2021.These children either become street children or are at a risk or facing abuse as they have no family or the caregivers are not equipped to provide a safe family environment. SOS Children’s Villages of India is reaching a small portion of this population (approx. 24,000) and has a long way to go…with your support. SOS plans to expand its reach from 24,000 to 60,000 by 2020. SOS is the only organization that has a unique family and home based care model for child development.

SOS Children's Villages of India is an independent non-profit organisation working towards holistic development of parentless children, women and children belonging to vulnerable families. Based at Faridabad, they have worked with children and communities in disaster struck and disaster-prone areas, spreading hope to weary societies and families. Striving to achieve their vision where every child grows up in a family with love, respect and security, the organization bases its work on the four pillars of The Mother, Brothers and Sisters, The House and The Village. Their various flagship programs like Family Based Care and Family Strengthening Program have reached out to over 25,000 parentless children across 22 states and 32 locations in India.

With over 54 years of committed care and service provided to parentless and underprivileged, children, SOS Children’s Villages of India, (SOS India) is one of the largest self implementing NGOs with pan India presence across 32 projects in 22 States. It provides direct care to over 26,000 children annually. Established in 1964, SOS India is a non government, non-profit, voluntary child care organisation. It has since been involved in providing children in distress a ‘home-like’ environment with a loving mother, brothers and sisters, as well as a home and a community. The mission of SOS India is to build families for children without parental care so that they grow up with love, respect and security. SOS India also focuses on empowering families from poor and vulnerable sections to provide better care for their children and prevent abandonment of children by enhancing income generation capacity of the primary caregivers. It is a well-known and credible organisation in India and the first childcare NGO to get a CRISIL accreditation for strong

delivery capability and high financial proficiency. In March 2016, SOS India was certified by TRACE, the world’s leading anti-bribery standard setting organisation, which demonstrates a commitment to commercial transparency.
