A School for Underprivileged

There are over 3800 HIV+ children in Belagavi district. Most if not all of them are from extremely poor families and some are orphans. After the basic needs of food, shelter and medicine they need education in order to become self reliant in their life. The challenge is that the current education makes children literate but capable only to work in an office. They need job skills and life skills during their schooling that would make a difference in success and failure in their lives. Currently, Mahesh Foundation runs a school up to 5th standard and would like to extend the classes up to 10th standard. But, there is no enough space to extend the classes and we intend to build a new premises.

Mahesh Foundation’s Residential School is quite unique. The uniqueness of the school comes from the educational philosophy that is a combination of JK’s philosophy and multiple intelligence theory. Our approach will enable a child to learn using its innate curiosity and choose the areas that naturally attract the individual child. Along with the subject education, there will be emphasis on SQ and EQ development.

The limited facility at our current hostel restricts us from offering shelter to more than 60 kids. The new hostel will house about 50 HIV+ orphans, providing succour to many needy kids. We will be truly able to make an impact on the lives of these kids by providing them with life skills that will enable them to lead a normal life. In addition we will be providing free education to children from nearby slum and village too. We expect our school to have a long term impact on the education and life of surrounding hundreds of families.
