Story

Timmie Kumar and her NGO ‘Help In Suffering (HIS)’ received an urgent call for help one early morning, not long back. A camel had been attacked with an axe the previous night and had been bleeding profusely. Timmie rushed a rescue team to the village near Jodhpur. The team was shocked to see the condition of the helpless animal. Fortunately, HIS doctors could revive the camel and bring it back to a sanctuary run by the NGO.

Sadly hundreds of camels that are attacked, butchered, or smuggled are not as fortunate.

India Animal Foundation (IAF) and other NGOs including HIS have been on a tireless mission to save camels from a painful end. Our NGO partners rescue injured and abused animals and provide them with the treatment and care they need. Each year, close to 7000 camels are treated by HIS and many have even been provided a lifelong home.

However, the lack of funds has become a huge hurdle for these NGOs to continue their work. Your donation can ensure that camels get the urgent care they need. Donate now

A life of torture for the gentle giants

“They (camels) are made to carry stones and heavy loads. At times they are beaten mercilessly. They get wounds on nose pegs and become maggot-infested. They even get saddle wounds. Many times camels fall and break their legs. The camel cart owners need to earn and keep beating the animals to carry on. If a camel enters someone's farm, they are attacked by axes and knives”, shares Timmie, who heads the Rajasthan-based nonprofit HIS. According to her even the camel owners struggle to earn a living and have no option but to overwork their camels. HIS along with other NGOs has been training camel owners to care for the animals and improve their lives.

From traveling to distant villages to installing the equipment needed to treat camels, our NGO partners have left no stone unturned in providing care for abused and injured camels. But the work being done by HIS, IAF and their team of doctors and volunteers is completely dependent on public support.

HIS along with another NGO working for animal welfare Peedu’s People also aims to focus on humane educational outreach. They want to conduct school and college outreach programs to engage and educate the younger generation about the importance of treating animals with care and respect. Support for this initiative will also help other animal-related causes and will go a long way in creating a healthier coexistence between humans and animals.

Without donations, thousands of camels would end up suffering or even losing their lives. Your contribution is crucial to this cause. Donate generously.
