Violence against children is increasing in third world countries like India. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a universal problem with grave life-long outcomes. The estimates vary widely depending on the country. The prevalence of CSA is difficult to determine because it is often not reported. The child sexual abuse statistics depict that 1 in every 5 girls and 1 in every 20 boys is a victim of CSA. Children are most vulnerable to CSA between the ages of 7 and 13. Children living without either of the parents are 10 times more vulnerable to it and children who live with a single parent who has a live-in partner are at the highest risk. They are 20 times more likely to be sexually abused than children who live with both biological parents. These statistics are a call to action for parents, careers and teachers everywhere. Learning the facts is the first step to prevent CSA is educating children about body safety is in the best interests of all children. CSA is often reported in Nilakkottai Block. Child Voice recently filed two CSA cases in the court. Children are being abused because of lack of awareness, illiteracy and a very small number of CSA cases are reported.
