Adoption of 62 Widow Ladies from Eraiyur village for Daily Support

Eraiyur village, (Kanchipuram district, close to Sriperumbudur), is a remote village about 44 km south-west of the city of Chennai. Here, a set of old village ladies are suffering, having no kith and kin or any income from any quarter except owning a small house in the village. Most of them are above 75 years of age and their day to day living is becoming problematic.

These elderly senior citizens can no more cook for themselves due to advanced age and slowly in the 3 years that we have been supporting them, their number has grown and at present, there are 62 such ladies in Eraiyur village who are in need of help and support

About 3 years ago, NLCT started supporting 10 widow ladies and has now expanded support to about 62 ladies.

NLCT now provides a packet of groceries to each of the 62 elderly ladies every month and also takes care of their medical expenses. Those who cannot cook, hand over these groceries to their neighbours who cook for them along with cooking for their families.

Apart from these, in case of any urgent needs, these ladies approach NLCT home for help. This way, their day to day problems are taken care and they are able to handle their lives better.

Presently due to meagre corpus NLCT is unable to fulfil the recurring expenses of both 120 residents of NLCT home along with 62 community senior citizens family, however the present cost of each senior citizen's monthly requirement tunes to Rs.2500/- per person.

With NLCT supporting them, we are confident that they are living a better life as they don’t have to struggle for their daily needs and don’t have to starve. As they can no more work for themselves for their livelihood, this support is very helpful. NLCT is not in a position to in-house all the 62 senior citizens due to space constraints, but we found a solution by offering to help them with groceries, medicines, medical help/camps, ambulance services etc, so that they can live in their own homes, but get all other support forms NLCT.
