ADVANCING GIRLS' RIGHTS

Adolescence is an age of opportunity for children, and a pivotal time for us to build on their development in the first decades of life, to help them navigate risks and vulnerabilities, and to set them on the path to fulfilling their potential. The well-being and active participation of adolescents are fundamental to the effectiveness of life cycle approach that can break exclusion and discrimination. Adolescents need the opportunity to assert themselves, express themselves, to flourish.

Therefore, 253 million adolescents, which are about 22% of overall population, in India present a unique opportunity for a healthy and strong future; however, they receive far less attention in our policies and planning than their numbers merit. Parents, family member, communities and policy planners must bear the responsibility to promote and protect their development and Adolescents, face a number of challenges, including early marriage and childbearing, low knowledge and high risks for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV, anaemia, violence and substance abuse, and lack of education.

Advancing Girl’s Rights with a focus on resource poor and vulnerable girls those affected by disruption of education, protection health services & livelihood etc. and already at risk or victims, with information and resources to prevent them from falling victim to trafficking & child marriage  and other GBV (Gender Based Violence)

-Empowering 250+ adolescent girls through applying L 4 R (Leadership for Result) Training module & 3E (Encourage-Empower and Engage) Principle  and imparting knowledge, life skills, information so they develop agency and are better prepared to challenge the gender norms and violence.

- Creating second line of 60 leaders and peer mentor model where the older girls co facilitate identification, development and follow up of younger girls.

-Using Sports and Culture as tools to promote gender equity

- Facilitate Digital Learning for 100+ girls

-Case Management services ( Rescue, Restoration; Reintegration and Quality Institutional Care and Support)

Girls led campaign against unsafe migration, child marriage, trafficking where they talk about their right to protection and health and the impact of such violations.

General awareness among the community and panchayat members about the safe migration practices, laws and policies and potential risk and mitigation techniques.

• Panchayat members initiate compulsory registration of migration of girls

Established network of NGOs, Community and Government Stakeholders both at origin and destination to ensure safe journey, safe place, safe return of girls

Better enrolment and retention of girls in education both at origin and destination, especially at the upper primary level

Increase in the number of reported cases of child marriage, trafficking migration of girls.

•  Better coordination among community groups like VLCPCs, Anganwadi workers, health workers, SHGs (Self Help Groups) in discharging their duties

 An enabling atmosphere where there is scope for easier exchange of communication between the community and the government & better coordination amongst different departments working towards safe migration and protection of girl’s rights resulting in planned and effective strategies.

More coordinated and trained personnel at the district level to undertake and ensure prevention of violence and ensuring safe mobility.
