Jaipur, India. It is situated in a semi-urban area, home to migrants, schedule caste, schedule tribes and daily wage workers. SGSS was started in 2011 with the aim of ensuring and continuing the quality education for underprivileged girls, many of whom face abuse, family alcoholism, food insecurity, threat of child marriage, among other hardships at home. Most would otherwise not receive formal education. SGSS is a free of cost English medium and also provides meals, uniforms and extracurriculars. 80% of the girls are from underprivileged community or caste category and come from extreme poverty. Many are the first in their families to receive any kind of formal education. Along with education for roughly 200 girls, Sneh Girls Shikshan Sansthan provides community awareness, psychosocial support, healthcare, health counselling, hygiene counselling, mental health counselling, family counselling and education. SGSS teaches pre-kindergarten to 8thgrade class. Aside from formal education, there is a great focus on mental health, understanding rights as a female and female empowerment, breaking free from abuse and overall support.

SGSS aims to provide each and every facility that is necessary for holistic development, includes dance, theatre, games/sports, hobby classes, recreational activities, extracurricular activities, etc. Although the current school building is constructed as per the norms of education department, there is no outdoor space for recess, sports, or breaks. The present school is tightly packed, and the girls remain at their desk—all day.

Playgrounds are safe spaces where kids develop crucial physical, social, emotional, and imaginative skills necessary to gain self-confidence, improve coordination and physical health, and advance critical thinking capabilities. Outdoor breaks during the day also help the impact and attention span during indoor classes. Playgrounds are the perfect place for children to engage in free play. When children are on the playground, different structures and spaces give them the freedom to choose how they want to play. They can explore their own natural tendencies, interact with a broader range of age groups, and awaken their creative instincts.

SGSS is seeking support for the playground, of 166 square feet and cost around 18 lacs INR ($23,000 USD). To develop it as lively and safe place for children, we would require outdoor playground equipment that includes a combination of swings, slides, climbers, spring riders, spinners, and sensory panels to maximize fun, safety, and accessibility.
