ATMA Gurukulam Girls’ Home

Children from socio-economically backward situations face severe disadvantages right from childhood. Many have no safe homes or functional families. Lack of love & care in childhood makes them insecure and less confident than their advantaged peers. They also lack a proper foundation in learning, as there is no support or motivation from the family. This makes them drop out of school early, and they have no dreams further than earning a meager living. All these factors deprive them of equal opportunities in future, and they are trapped in the poverty cycle. 

The ATMA Gurukulam is a home for girls who have no safe home or functional family. Situated in Thrissur district of Kerala, ATMA Gurukulam now accommodates 18 girls aged 7 to 22. Sheltered by the nurturing safety of ATMA Gurukulam, the children are enabled and empowered to dream high. They attend good schools or colleges. They are given tutoring &  mentoring support, arts & sports training, sessions for leadership development & value orientation, etc. We guide them to make suitable higher education choices, and help them transform into financially independent professionals in their chosen fields. 

Our eldest ‘child’ is now a nursing professional. Other senior children are pursuing under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in different streams like law, social work,  food science, engineering, etc. These girls are role models to their younger ‘sisters’ at Gurukulam, who in turn are responding well to our care, and improving tremendously on all fronts. ATMA Gurukulam is helping these girls to break out of the poverty cycle and do well in life and career.
