ATMA Gurukulam Girls' Home

Children from low socioeconomic backgrounds begin their life with significant disadvantages. The majority of these kids are exposed to poverty and uninspiring environments and most of them don't have safe homes or functioning families. Lack of love and care during childhood drives them to be insecure and less self-assured than their advantaged peers. As a result, the gap between a disadvantaged and a normal child starts to widen. They also lack a proper foundation in learning, as there is no financial and emotional support or motivation from the family members. This results in low academic performances and lesser intellectual development, which may also make them drop out of school early, leaving them with no hopeful dreams further than earning a meagre livelihood. All these factors deprive them of equal opportunities in future, and they are trapped in the poverty cycle.

The ATMA Gurukulam is a residential care home for young girls without a stable family and safe home. At the moment, 15 girls between the ages of 7 and 22 are housed at ATMA Gurukulam, which is situated in Thrissur district, Kerala. Children who are protected by ATMA Gurukulam's loving safety are empowered and given the opportunity and strength to dream bigger. They go to reputed schools and colleges. They receive mentoring support with academics, arts and sports, leadership training, and value orientation seminars, etc. We guide them in choosing suitable higher education programmes and assist them transform into financially independent professionals in their chosen areas.

Two of our senior-most girls are now professionals in nursing and social work respectively. Other senior children are pursuing under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in a variety of fields including law, medicine, multimedia, etc. These girls serve as role models to their younger ‘sisters’ at Gurukulam, who in turn are responding well to our care, and progressing rapidly, making great achievements on all fronts. ATMA Gurukulam is providing the best possible support for the girls to break out of the poverty cycle and succeed in both their personal and professional lives.
