St. Jude’s Child Care Centre has been a ‘home away from home’ for more than 20,000 children since 2006. 

These children, accompanied by their parents, come from small villages and distant towns where medical treatment for cancer is not available. St. Jude’s provides free accommodation and holistic support to these children undergoing cancer treatment to improve their chance of surviving the disease, and leading a full, healthy, happy life. Recreational activities and value-based education forms an important part of the support provided to help keep the children’s minds off the stress of the treatment. 

Pratham Books is a not-for-profit multilingual children's book publisher based in Bangalore introducing children to the joy of reading. With a mission to put "A Book in Every Child’s Hand", it offers diverse solutions to ensure support for reading and knowledge acquisition. In 16 years, Pratham Books has published over 5,000 titles across 30 million printed books in India.

In 2015, StoryWeaver an open-source digital repository of multilingual storybooks was launched. Stories can be read, downloaded, translated, versioned or printed free of charge. StoryWeaver created over 24,000 stories in 260+ languages, with a 40M readership across 150 countries till date.

How will the funds be utilised?

Pratham Books will use the funds raised to set up these Libraries in the 38 centres. Each library will contain a set of 100 books across reading levels, languages and genres. These books will be included in the lesson plans as part of the syllabus to encourage the children to read more. The books will also be available for whenever the children want to read to improve comprehension and vocabulary. Books in different languages including mother tongue languages will help the parents read to their children. The books will also help to expand the child’s imagination and knowledge.
