We began construction in March 2023. Today, our building is 70% complete. The first thing you notice is the brickwork: stunning and strong.

So far, we’ve used 500,000 bricks. We still need 100,000 more. 

One brick? Only Rs 10.

You have to see it to know you need it. Until we experience the joy of good design, we can’t picture it, let alone demand it.

In India, disabled people are so used to struggling to get inside buildings, access public toilets or use ramps, they literally can’t imagine that things could be different.

That’s about to change.

Latika’s new campus will be a gift to the country—an iconic building purpose-built on universal design principles, meant to welcome and work for everyone, beautifully. Lights you can dim or brighten. Doors visitors can open with their elbows. Braille signs. A pod for breastfeeding. Corridors wide enough for two wheelchairs at one time.

• A library for children and families.
• Four sensory rooms.
• Two changing place toilets where adults in diapers find dignity and comfort.
• A driver’s adda where our bhaiyas can rest and relax.
• Dedicated spaces for movement, therapy, counseling, training, and play.

And at its heart, a gentle ramp (1:20 slope)—a building in itself—embracing a vast, airy atrium filled with light and air. Children, teens, parents and elders playing, chatting, teaching, performing in this beautiful village square.
