Indraprastha Cancer Society and Research Center is a registered entity under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and it runs one of the largest, state-of-the-art cancer care institutes in the country in the name &amp; style of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute Research Centre (RGCIRC). RGCIRC completes its journey of 25 years as a tertiary cancer hospitalRGCIRC being a not–for–profit institution, with the vision to “Provide affordable oncological care of international standards and help to eliminate cancer from India through research, education, prevention and patient care,” provides a plethora of philanthropic services to needy people and patients, ranging from free preventive screening to free beds. Since its inception in 1996, it has grown leaps and bounds, from a 150 to 500 bedded exclusive cancer hospital, in the country with state-of-the-art diagnostic &amp; therapeutic facilities. Following the Vision and Mission statements of the founding members of the society, the institute ploughs back the entire revenue surpluses in the strengthening of the institute and the members of the Governing Council work as volunteers, as they don’t derive any monetary benefit from the institute. Truly the model of governance is patient-centric and not driven by any profit motive.As we all know that the menace of cancer is slowly, but firmly spreading its tentacles in the population, driving a large number of people to poverty, as the cost of treatment of the disease is very high, primarily due to the high cost of medicines. Even a reasonably well-off patient, at the end of the treatment, will find her/himself, in a deep financial crisis due to the prolonged and costly treatment needed for cancer. A Few Highlights:<ul><li>RGCIRC is one of the largest, comprehensive cancer institutes in India</li><li>Not-for –Profit institution.</li><li>The institute ploughs back the entire revenue surpluses in strengthen of the institute</li><li>It has grown, from a 150 to 500 bedded exclusive cancer hospital</li><li>The entire gamut of services – from prevention and palliation to end-of-life care under one roof</li><li>Cutting-edge technologies with some of the best minds in the field of Cancer</li><li>It has state-of-the-art diagnostic &amp; therapeutic facilities</li><li>RGCIRC registers more than 12000 cancer patients in a year</li><li>At RGCIRC the treatment starts within two days of the diagnosis irrespective of Socioeconomic status</li></ul>The institute at present spends around Rs. 35 Crore p.a., from its own resources to help needy patients in the course of their treatment, in terms of free beds, overall discounts, a concession to the patients in collaboration with a few NGOs etc. In addition, the institute carries out a comprehensive preventive program in clusters of under-served areas of Delhi, in the form of cancer awareness, screening and free treatment to those patients who are detected with cancer. Prevention is a very strong instrument, as is evident from our data based on the preventive program, which indicates that about 5-6%, out of the total 10,000 persons screened every year by, our Preventive team, are detected, at pre-cancerous or cancerous stages. In other words, about 500-600 lives are directly saved through our preventive intervention. So, the bottom line is early detection of cancer can save thousands of lives.The Institute also runs free home care services for terminally ill patients, under which the doctor and the nursing team not only provide basic medicines and dressings but also comprehensive psycho-social counselling. This end-of-the-life program is to help improve the quality of physical and mental health of those unfortunate needy patients.It is, therefore, our endeavour to further scale up the above services, so that a large number of needy patients can be brought under the ambit of our philanthropic program, to achieve our Vision and Mission.We do hope you will appreciate our endeavour and become a partner with us in the fight against cancer and help mitigate the burden of the disease and the financial and psycho-social difficulties the patients face almost daily. We, therefore, urge you to donate generously to the noble cause of helping poor and needy cancer patients.This is to inform you that RGCIRC is covered under section 80G and section 35 (i) (ii) of the Income Tax Act.If you have specific questions about our Institute reach out to the undersigned at <a href="mailto:ceo@rgcirc.org" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">ceo@rgcirc.org</a>or Swarnima Jaitley, Philanthropic Services, <a href="mailto:jaitley.swarnima@rgcirc.org" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">jaitley.swarnima@rgcirc.org</a>.
