Story

According to The World Health Organization, Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. The most common cancer in 2020 (in terms of new cases) was breast (2.26 million cases). lung (2.21 million cases), colon and rectum (1.93 million cases), prostate (1.41 million cases), skin (non-melanoma) (1.20 million cases) and stomach (1.09 million cases). Further, if left undiagnosed and untreated, “one in 15 may die of this scourge.” The World Cancer Report said that according to the estimated cancer burden in India, there are about 1.16 million new cancer cases, 784,800 cancer deaths, and 2.26 million 5-year prevalent cases in India’s population of 1.35 billion. The report said that “one in 10 Indians will develop cancer during their lifetime, and one in 15 Indians will die of cancer.” In India also, the six most common cancer types were breast cancer (162,500 cases), oral cancer (120,000 cases), cervical cancer (97,000 cases), lung cancer (68,000 cases), stomach cancer (57,000 cases), and colorectal cancer (57,000). Together, these account for 49 per cent of all new cancer cases. This mortality rate can decline through early intervention.

The best way for early detection and follow-up action is Education and Screening. This facility is totally lacking for our underprivileged citizens. This is where the role of Foundations like ours (SCCF) would chip in and provide early detection for breast, prostate, lung, blood (leukaemia) and childhood cancer. Sankalp Cancer Care Foundation will do For this we would provide tests for Mammography, PAP Smear, Serum PSA, Ultrasound, Chest X-Rays and blood tests as these are essential first steps.

Educating the masses about the prevention of cancer and how the risk of cancer can be reduced by taking a few things in mind. Mortality of cancer can be reduced if detected at an early stage. If detected at an early stage it is likely to respond to the treatment thus saving the life of the person from this dreaded disease. This is the slogan of SCCF “Early Detection is equal to Cure”

The main objective of the foundation is to make people aware of all the early symptoms of various cancers and education by various camps and distributing reading material and screening tests for early detection.
