The handloom weaving industry in India is a vibrant facet of the nation's cultural heritage. It is also the second-largest employment provider in rural India, supporting over 3 million people directly and indirectly. Renowned for their unique weaving techniques, India's handloom artists exhibit exceptional creativity and dedication in crafting innovative designs.

Agriculture, another labor-intensive sector, demands arduous physical work from dawn till dusk. Entirely dependent on the vagaries of nature, farmers face significant challenges. As these skilled artisans and farmers aged, their physical abilities decline, leading to economic hardship and psychological distress.

After the age of 60, their physical health deteriorates significantly. Weavers struggle with vision impairment, back pain, and reduced stamina, making it difficult to sit and weave for extended periods. Similarly, farmers find it increasingly challenging to perform daily tasks. These challenges result in loss of income and increased medical expenses, which can be overwhelming for elderly individuals.

Many of these elderly weavers and farmers, often widowed and without children, face additional difficulties in caring for themselves. They struggle with basic tasks like cooking.

To address these needs, Nature Trust has initiated a program to provide one nutritious meal per day to 150 elderly individuals from the handloom and agricultural communities.
