Pakhi Bagai was a beloved colleague, loving family member and an irreplaceable friend who touched countless lives in her brief time with us. Passing away at the tender age of 37, she made an indelible impact on strangers and friends alike. Pakhi vigorously believed in the rights of women, was a passionate sportswoman, fiercely defended and supported the oppressed, and believed in giving back through service.
In partnership with CEQUIN, an NGO that works towards empowering women and girls to live with dignity and reach their full potential is the perfect embodiment of Pakhi’s legacy. CEQUIN has been working to end gender bias in sport by providing opportunities for girls to play football and claim their rights to a space free from oppression to play. One year since Pakhi left us for her hockey field in the sky, this ‘Celebration of Life’ fund is dedicated in her memory, as a testament to her passion for sports and for making the lives girls’ and women’s better.
In keeping with Pakhi’s legacy, the ‘Celebration of Life Fund’ will be utilised to fund Football coach licenses for 15 - 20 young women from underprivileged backgrounds in Delhi, who will then go on to train countless young women and girls to learn and play the sport. Any additional funds will be used to provide talented young girls with sports kits that will support their training and skill development in football. Your contribution will help these young women to reach their goals, excel in their skills, build confidence and learn to take back their rightful space in the world.
This fund will be utilised to support:
Your contribution will not only honor Pakhi’s legacy and our love for her, it will also help these aspiring & talented young sportswomen to reach their goals, build confidence, being self-reliant, financially independent and learn to take back their rightful space in the society.
Women have the right to lead a violence free life, develop their capabilities, have ownership and control over resources and participate in decision making. Substantive equality for women can only be achieved through equal opportunities, access and outcomes and for this to be realised, a facilitating environment must be created.
The process of creating a gender sensitive environment, involves taking into account the specific concerns of women and men. The prevalent patriarchal world view that dominates has to be deconstructed. This involves education and sensitisation along with proactive governance to create a conducive climate for women to live with dignity and reach their full potential, thereby contributing to the nation’s prosperity.
