Cheer A Flutter: Group Activities with Child Patients

The Lancet estimates that 2.5 million children worldwide die every year requiring palliation, of whom, more than 98% are from developing regions. Further, 7 to 9 million children in the world, ranging from neonates to 18-21 years, could benefit from palliative care. A wide variety of children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions require palliative care. These include children suffering from cancer, irreversible organ failures of heart, liver and/or kidney, cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, HIV/AIDS, neuromuscular or neurodegenerative disorders, severe cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities.

To conduct activities for child patients, primarily in groups:

1. Play therapy with child patients, twice a month (SRMC-1, CTH-1)

2. Counseling visits to child patients at their home/hospital, twice a month

3. Art therapy with child patients, twice a year

4. Camp rainbow with child patients, twice a year (with YRG CARE)

The following activities are envisaged:

1. Training workshop on Palliative Care

2. Training workshop on Counselling

3. Training workshop on Art Therapy

4. Awareness generation programs for the general public

Training workshop on Art Therapy

End-to-end support provided to child patients suffering from terminal and/or chronic conditions like cancer, end-stage organ failure, HIV/AIDS.

Expected Outcome

1. Structured training workshops for interested people particularly college students

2. Mass awareness about palliative care

3. Unique training tools for counseling
