CHHOTI SI ASHA

Currently, the world is witnessing massive unemployment, job loss, and humanitarian crisis. The ongoing COVID-19 has severely impacted the livelihood and everyday life of daily wage earners and migrant labourers from unorganized sectors and other weaker sections of society. Many such families are witnessing economic disruption that has resulted in a shortage of food, clothing and other basic necessities. Education has also taken a back seat, as a lot of children from such families are either not enrolled or have stopped going to school. 

The need for food, education for children, and lack of covid awareness towards coronavirus is the concern among these populations.

The project Chhoti si Asha will have the following activities:

A. Instant relief by mobilizing dry ration/ grocery kits, hygiene kits, blankets/ woolens distribution to the targeted population (15-20 days)

Activities:

1. Listing of 1000 beneficiaries families who are in need of instant relief
2. Coordination with local stakeholders and volunteers for 15 days
3. Procurement, packaging, transportation storage of grocery kits
4. Each kit will comprise of - 5 Kg Aata, 2 Kg Rice, 1 Kg Dal, 1 Kg Sugar, 1 Kg Salt, 1 Lit Cooking Oil, 200 gm Soya Chunks, 250 gm Tealeaf, 100 gms spices, 2 soaps, 5 masks.
5. Distribution plan (15 days) and local logistics
6. Distribution of 1000 Kits with Covid protocols
7. Documentation of events.
8. Event branding and media promotion

B. Run awareness drives on mandatory Covid-19 protocols to be followed in public and other places during the pandemic, hygiene and Covid vaccination during the grocery distribution event

1. Train volunteers for providing covid awareness during the distribution event
2. Awareness sessions for beneficiary families

C. Run bridge education centers for out of school underprivileged children through a one year program.

1. Survey and listing of 250 out of school children (6-14 age groups) from the 1000 beneficiaries families
2. Hiring of Education Coordinator
3. Meeting with parents for mobilizing their Kids to attend the bridge education centers
4. Hiring of 10 Education Volunteers (teachers)
5. Identify location for 10 bridge education centres at the community
6. Training of 10 Education Volunteers
7. procurement of stationary, teaching aids, bridge education materials and teachers manual
8. start operation of 10 bridge education with 25 children each
9. baseline assessment, periodical assessments
10. Teaching and learning on 5 subjects - Hindi, English, Science, SST and Maths
11. Activity based teaching, story telling,
12. Monitoring of centers and tracking the progress of children's learning by the Education Coordinator
13. monthly and quarterly extracurricular events - music, sports, festival and cultural events, etc. will be organised
14. Linkages with school for enrollment
15. Endline assessment/ grade test and formal school enrolment
16. Quarterly progress reports
17. submission of annual program and finance reports

Impact:

1. Ration /Grocery Kit distribution- would provide instant food relief to 1000 poor families in need, who are severely impacted by the pandemic and harsh winter
2. Instant food relief will restore hope during the crisis
3. 11 months bridge education program of HFHF will provide quality education and holistic development of out of school underprivileged children
4. Bridge learning gaps of 250 out of school children
5. Develop and instil confidence
6. Encourage every child to complete schooling so that in the long run, they can be mainstreamed into the formal schooling system, with ease
7. Provide employment to 10 local teachers through this project
8. In the long term, children will be empowered, retained in the higher grades, will get good employment and will be able to break the shackles of poverty
