India alone accounts for 163 million*.In India, only 57% of the population has access to water available on the premises and only 31% of the rural population has access to piped water supply.The burden of collecting water falls mainly on women who walk many rounds and long distances simply to get access to clean water. Access to clean water closer home can give people the time and resources to find jobs, learn new skills and run successful businesses.Access to clean water is critical to help people live their lives to the fullest.WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere. We have been working in India since 1986, and have remained resolutely focused on tackling these three essentials that transform people’s lives. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives.WaterAid is registered as Jal Seva Charitable Foundation (JSCF) in India. We are working in 11 plus states and 31 districts in India. WaterAid India engages in the areas with the greatest concentration of excluded and marginalised communities.In 2017-18, WaterAid India reached to 2,09,971 people with access to clean water, and 4,74,910 people with access to toilets.Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are basic human rights.
