Why does Just.Play, a Non profit have to organise an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament?

• The children who we engage with are mostly from underprivileged sections of the society and get limited exposure to meet and learn from people outside their immediate community.
• We have been engaging with the children for over a year and have been imparting several life skills. But do we have enough opportunities to make practical use of these 21st venture life skills?
• People from all genders and not treated equally in society. How can we do it via a frisbee tournament?
• There are several players who play Ultimate Frisbee and other sports in the state. But all players are scattered and there is limited opportunities to come together.

To address the above challenges, we are hosting a one-day event with the support of ultimate players communities from Kerala.

About the tournament.

The Cochin Hat tournament is jointly organised by all ultimate playing communities in Kerala, Decathlon Kalamassery and Just.Play foundation. Kerala is a fast-growing ultimate destination and we would love to have all of you meet us and have a day of fun Ultimate Frisbee.

About Just.Play

We are a sports for development NGO based out of Kerala and we primarily use Ultimate Frisbee to empower underprivileged children and progress gender equality in society. Currently, we are working with 150+ children across 3 communities in Cochin.

To give exposure to the children and to build a sustainable ultimate community in Kerala, we are organising the Cochin HAT tournament on the 20th of November 2022. We would love to have all players from across the country join us to make this a memorable experience for the children and the Kerala ultimate community.

~ The children we engage with are really excited about the exposure they will gain by meeting with people from diverse backgrounds! What better way to make new friends and network, than over a day of fun games, right? 

~ Our children will get an opportunity to employ the many 21st-century life skills that they have nurtured over the year. As seasoned players now, they will be mentoring and leading teams, communicating with external stakeholders and will come back with a whole new set of learnings. 

~ We believe in Ultimate Frisbee as an agency for change in our society. As a self-refereed and mixed-gender sport, this game leaves its players with a renewed sense of self-respect and appreciation for co-players. Furthermore, nearly all the participants of this tournament will be experiencing a competitive mixed-gender sport for the very first time in their lives! This demonstrably facilitates dialogue and positively affects gender perceptions.

~ The tournament would see several players from across the state and country get together for the first time, and even a few players touching a frisbee for the very first time. It would be the best start to a flourishing and wholesome ultimate Frisbee community from Kerala.
