Community Cricket Program 2023-24

Appeal for funding!

With our previous cohort of the Community Cricket Program (CCP) coming to an end in September 2023, Pro Sport Development (PSD) aims to continue its partnership with The Upamanyu Mallik Initiatives (TUMI) by beginning a new cohort with 50 young community cricket ambassadors (50% girls) from marginalized communities in Bhubaneswar, and we need your help!

The CCP will enable these young ambassadors to access their fundamental right to play and empower them to become confident, competent and gender-sensitive young citizens, taking on leadership roles, confronting gender norms and advocating for child rights within their schools and communities.

We aim to raise ₹ 7.5 lakhs to continue our programming with these young community cricket ambassadors in Bhubaneswar to enable them to benefit from its impact.

This is how you can contribute to the program:

The CCP will give the young ambassadors a first-time experience of organized cricket and enable them to avail the various benefits of sport and physical activity. Along with structured, purposeful cricket-based sessions delivered by trained facilitators, the CCP will provide these young ambassadors with access to cricket equipment, a mixed-gendered tournament and a personalized cricket kit to enable their growth and development.

About the Community Cricket Program

Pro Sport Development (PSD), in partnership with The Upamanyu Mallik Initiatives (TUMI), and with support from Ace Sports and Grant Thornton Bharat, implemented the Community Cricket Program (CCP) in the city of Bhubaneswar from October 2022 to September 2023. The program leverages the power of cricket to support young community cricket ambassadors from marginalized slum communities across Bhubaneswar by improving their health and wellbeing, equipping them with crucial soft skills and sporting values, as well as increasing their awareness on issues of gender and child rights. 

Envisioned outcomes

The CCP’s structured and goal-oriented cricket-for-development activities will have the following outcomes for its participants:

• Further hone leadership abilities
• Increased gender awareness, leading to the ability to identify and resist gender-based stereotypes and discrimination in their own contexts
• Increased knowledge and understanding of child rights
• Empowered to act as leaders and agents of change in their communities
