Community Education Centre

• 1 out of every 1000 children born, is born deaf

• There are 12 million deaf persons in India

• There are 3000000 deaf children (approximately) in the age range of 0- 4 years

• 530 schools in India educate around 50,000 children with hearing impairment in the age group of 5 to 18 years. The other children do not receive any formal education

• Difficult accessibility to schools for deaf & their parents thus children and not able to reach to the proper center /school for any kind of education

• 80% of parents never learn to fully communicate with their children

• Children with hearing losses identified before 6 months of age have significantly better language development than children whose hearing losses are identified after 6 months of age.

Community Education Centre (cEc) is India’s first deaf children communication school in the form of a resource centre, which works towards holistic communication for deaf children( Indian sign language, lip reading, speech, finger spelling and hearing aid). It aims to support quality services for the early identification, screening and intervention of deaf children (0-14 years) with uses innovative teaching techniques and provides parent counselling and training regular health check-ups, nutritional supplements and audiological testing is also provided to deaf children. Community Education Centre (cEc) envision to have impact to eliminate the most fundamental and overlooked problem with childhood deafness – the inability of the child to communicate with his or her own parent. With Community Education Centre (cEc) , We believe that every deaf child is entitled to total and complete access to communication, education, protection and equality in all spheres, and information and knowledge to reach his or her full potential as an individual and a member of society with respect and dignity.
