The pandemic continues to hit the country the loss of schooling and education in children lives remains most impacted. The continued lockdowns and subsequent adjustments in schooling have significantly impacted their learning and development. From being denied mid-day meals to social isolation and challenges of remote learning, our students are dealing with a multiple crisis as they have lost access to educative, nutritional and emotional services that were offered in school.

According to an IDR report - Schools in India are not just a source of education but also provide access to health, hygiene, immunization, and nutritional safety nets. India’s Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDM), one of the largest school feeding Programmes in the world, has been widely studied for its positive associations with an increase in attendance, decreased rates of malnutrition, and prevention of stunted growth across generations. It is estimated that 115.9 million children in India benefit from midday meals.

The school has been serving the community for a decade plus with a 100% pass in the SSC board exams.

Our team is making tireless efforts to help communities to survive the lockdown and; keep the classes running over online media - from academics to arts and extracurricular.

1.       Food Distribution: Till date over 100 tonnes of dry ration and fresh vegetables has been successfully distributed to over 950 households in and around the community in 16 rounds coordinated by parent volunteers and staff.

2.       The remote learning initiative: Gradewise learning groups of students were formed over Whatsapp – the most suited choice of platform for easy and affordable connectivity. Academic information, study materials (text content and videos) are shared with the students over the group.

To support the remote learning, we have organized distribution drives of following materials for students to take home to ensure their access to remote learning

·       Providing tabs for e-learning

·       Distributing books and stationery provided by the municipal corporation

·       Distributing learning resource material available in school library

·       Maintaining personalized teacher-student connect

We have been able to sustain engagement of 100% of our students with more than 90% regularly attending classes and submitting assignments.

3.       Psychosocial Support Programme: We have ensured counselling and social -emotional support through remote learning practices.

1. We serve 950+ children from underserved slum communities of Lalbaug, Parel. Almost 80% of our students are first-generation learners from families of ex-mill workers, migrant labourers and petty vendors. We have provided them with a strong academic foundation and supported them holistically to win many national and international accolades.
2. At educo, teachers are given opportunity for their professional development raising the quality of education within the system. We have trained over 3500 municipal school teachers that has positively impacted 1,00,000 students enrolled in municipal schools. 
3. We have supported over 1000+ families through 5 community based municipal schools by organizing several distribution (of vegetables & essentials) rounds to help people cope the adversities of the pandemic.
