Contribute towards providing Palliative Care to the underprivileged

Palliative care is a holistic approach focusing on reducing the suffering and relief from pain. The goal of Palliative Care is to improve the quality of life for patients and families. The need of palliative care is essential in management of chronic diseases as they are incurable and result in physical, psychological, socio-economic strain to individuals and their families. Pain is one of the most prevalent symptoms at the end of life: No human being wants to go through suffering and pain at the end of life. Palliative Care is about providing care, support and treatment to ensure dignified death of the patient.

In Mysuru, we identified around 2000 patients out of which 50% are critically in need of Palliative care. SYVM provides free home based medical care and food kit at the door steps of the patients. The team constitutes Doctors, nurses, counsellors, social workers and volunteers visiting each patient’s home and help them improve their quality of life by using an array of skills. We teach the family about bereavement care and counselling. Not only that, we also advocate for the patient and their family by facilitating social entitlements and other linkages.

The most significant achievement of this project is that it reduces the unbearable pain of the patients to a considerable extent. It neither hastens nor postpones death but only affirms life. The linkages to social entitlement will strengthen the economic condition of patient and their families.
