The outbreak has been declared as a pandemic globally. Educational institutions and many commercial establishments have been shut down. India has also suspended all tourist visas, as one of the safety measures. The government announced a complete lockdown in the country on 24th March, 2020 for the next 21 days. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread globally, resulting in the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Common symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Muscle pain, sputum production and sore throat are less common. While the majority of cases result in mild symptoms, some progress to severe pneumonia and multi-organ failure. The rate of deaths per number of diagnosed cases is estimated to be 3.4% but varies by age and other health conditions.Children, Elderly and Individuals with underlying medical conditions are the worst victims of lack of proper hygiene as their immunity level is usually low.
It has now become a critical need to create awareness and train the communities on:
· Correct method of hand washing
· Importance of personal hygiene and clean surroundings
· Impact of the above on general public health and development

Majority of the target communities are Daily wagers/ labourers/ migrant workers who carry out various livelihood activities such as construction related, agricultural labour, laying of pipes etc. These people don’t have any source of income due to the lockdown prevalent Pan India.
In selective areas (as mentioned above) we have identified waste pickers, sanitation workers, policemen (traffic or otherwise) & hospital & PHC staff as well who are the front line workers in the current scenario. These are the most vulnerable people due to the line of work and the current spread of the pandemic.
To reduce insecurity of the marginalized families caused due to the prevalent lockdown due to Covid-19 outbreak. We are helping them through the distribution of the following:
· Distribution of Hygiene Kits
· Distribution of Family Essentials Kits
· Distribution of Personal Protective Equipment Kits
· Conditional Cash Transfers – As a huge no. of unorganized sector workers have been severely hit by the pandemic, Conditional Cash transfers (CCT) will be made directly to the bank accounts of these daily wage workers/ labourers/ migrant workers so as to increase the support to their families & to reduce financial burden for a short term
Operational Methodology
· Habitat will leverage on its local office and implementation partners who in turn will engage with the health network of the local authorities to engage with CBOs, SHGs and local organisations to identify community workers
· The trained community workers will help distribution of Kits to further promote use of soap/ sanitisers/ floor disinfectants to help keep hands and surroundings clean
· Providing financial support through Conditional Cash transfers (CCT) which will be made directly to the bank accounts of these daily wage workers/ labourers/ migrant workers so as to increase the support to their families & to reduce financial burden for a short term
Identified people will have the required be able to meet the usage of essential household item, hygiene and sanitation needs along with some cash flow to meet the other necessary requirements of the house.
