COVID-19 Response Fund

Undeniably, a rampaging Covid-19 (CORONA) second wave has hit the world so hard. We are currently living in a strange, confounding period, full of uncertainty and bizarre events. People with financial security and ability are able to combat the virus with necessary measures but few others like tribal communities that are stranded, daily wagers in solitary and differently abled people stuck at home are facing massive difficulties. Many hospitals are in lack of beds and equipments due to flooded patients and also a vast majority of patients and families are in dire need of mental health support. Owing to this, Thuvakkam has developed this Covid-19 Response fund.

Thuvakkam has formed an Emergency Response Team (ERT) for combating the impact of this second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in India. We are working towards gratifying the mental health needs of covid-19 patients and families, creating stability and security for lower-income and underprivileged families and satisfying the needs of hospitals Already the process has been started by finding, listing and prioritizing the beneficiaries for the usage of the fund. The funds raised for COVID-19 Response will be disbursed for the following relief activities by Thuvakkam NGO;

• Mental Wellness - Under the concept of 'friend in need', mental health support for Covid-19 affected patients and their families will be given. Talk sessions will be conducted and a helpline number/ chat system will be set up for catering the needs of them.
• Hospital aid - Various equipment that are in demand currently will be provided to various Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs), clinics and other hospitals. Blood donation and Plasma donation campaigns are also aimed to be conducted.
• Supporting the lower-income and underprivileged families for Daily sustainability, Providing Ration (groceries) and essential kits for Tribal Community, Daily wagers, Differently abled people and Roadside shopkeepers.
• Gift of giving - Orphanages and Old age homes will be given indoor activity items (board games, books, kits like knitting). Under the concept of 'giving wall', a box at different locations will be kept where people can drop in essentials/food packets that can be taken & used by the roadside people; food packets/blankets/sanitization items distribution to roadside people

Transparency: The money raised is accounted for and receipted for each penny. The Donation made also has a 50% tax exemption for Indians alone. The records of donation and recipients would be maintained both in terms of funders and beneficiaries. This would be published on our website and social media. (Discretion will be maintained for confidential information)

UPDATES ON THE PROJECT

The following are our achievements from the funds that we received in the past year (2020):

• Supplied Covid-19 Response kit to over 1900+ families
• Reached out to 7600+ individuals
• Provided dry ration and hygiene kit worth of INR18.5 lakhs to the people in need across 30+ localities
• Created Covid-19 awareness to over 50,000+ people

By this project, we intended to create a secure and sustainable life for the lower-income, underprivileged families and indigenous people in the past year. But now we have expanded our horizons to mainly cater the mental health needs of the Covid-19 patients and families, aiding the requirements of hospitals and through gift of giving we also focus on orphanages, old age homes and road side people. The main locality where we are working to implement this current project is in Tier III, Tier II, and Tier I cities at Tamil Nadu, India. 

Through this fund, we believe that after taking all the necessary precautions, we will venture and use all of our time and manpower to help those in need. The following are the impact that we aspire to create:

• Through provision of medical facilities to hospitals, the current scarcity of medical equipments, beds, etc., will be mitigated.
• By supporting the livelihood of the underprivileged, their financial burden will be reduced; thereby reducing their mental worries.
• Through our mental wellness program, the patients and their families will be relieved from their mental stress.
• Through Gift of giving, we aim to quench the needs of homeless, roadside people, orphanages and old age homes.
