Create opportunities for children in distressed agragarian families

The rising number of incidences of farmers' suicide in our country is a culmination of many factors ranging from nature’s apathy, to crop failure, to changed societal situation and developmental approach. Six districts in the Vidarbha region are marked as sensitive farmer suicide zones. After the suicide by a male farmer, the women and children of his family are left to face harsh realities of society. Most of the children are below 18 years of age, with little or no assets and are bound with debts on their heads. They could not complete their education, so their future is not very bright. The base survey shows that education of the children is a major concern amongst these families and there are very little opportunities present to improve their lives by educating them.

Apeksha aims to strengthen the current livelihood situation of the widowed women and help their children in completing their education and vocational trainings in 9 districts of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra state, which will enable them to become educated and responsible citizens in the future.

Our program includes-

1) Ensuring that all children of agrarian distress families are in school and are attaining quality education

2) Providing support for educational material, tuition fee, travel cost, hostel fee etc.

3) Providing vocational skills training such as, beauty and grooming, mobile/computer repairing, electronic device repairing, nursing, photography, motor mechanicals, driving etc.

Since 1991, Apeksha has stayed committed to the issue of child rights, ensuring that all children are in schools, and also total abolition of the child labour through intervention by collaboration with GO/NGO/schools and community.

Due to your support, children from deceased farmers' families and women headed families will get the opportunity to continue their education and they will become capable of finding livelihood opportunities.
