Create safe and fun classrooms for children

AIM: Turn 10 schools into a stimulating learning space for 300 under-resourced children in Trombay. 

Did you know that Preschool is short for ‘Preparatory’ school? 90% of a child’s brain develops between the ages of 0-6 years. Ample research shows that stimulation during these early years can lead to a 20% reduction in dropouts, better literacy, better self efficacy, social development, and enhanced creativity. But in Trombay, children belonging to the families displaced by the Atomic research centre, leave these preschools with less than half the skills required to be school ready. They do not have the fine motor skills to hold a pencil, the skills to explore, nor the attention span to listen to instruction. These children begin their life at a disadvantage.

Why contribute?

Your support will us create a space where children can learn to THINK, FEEL, and DREAM! Parents will drop their children all the way inside the classroom and not just to the school gate. There, they will be greeted with plants and greenery cared for by the children. The walls will be colourful and vibrant, filled with different textures to develop a sense of touch in the children, and a blackboard running around the classroom perimeter for the children. Concepts such as grouping, big and small, etc will be taught through prancing animals and fruit, while emotion cards will help develop their vocabulary to express feelings. The objects will be labeled and learning aids will be at the eye level of the children to create a print rich ambiance. Building As a Learning Aid (BALA) shall govern the philosophy of the space. Finally, teachers in the class will have the required teaching resources, tools, and capacity to deliver a high quality preschool program. [See images]
