Creating army of Indian women changemakers

What does Gauri from a village in Maharashtra and Reena from Bengaluru, Karnataka have in common? Both want to be financially independent to secure their children’s future but both do not know how to. 

Women from poor households in India have a variety of barriers when it comes to making a living. External barriers include lack of access to finance, lack of skills, lack of business mentoring, little to no family support and most importantly lack of social structures that let mothers work. Internal barriers include a lack of self-confidence, emotional management skills, and clarity, resulting from not having the right guidance or even role models to live by. Srujna Charitable Trust addresses both of these barriers through its programs. 

SuperDidi is a one-of-a-kind leadership development program that aims at shaping women's mindset and creating changemakers at the grassroots. Through a 3-month intervention, women experience learning, confidence building, new beliefs and a new mode of being. They find community support and can be each other’s cheerleaders. 

But do you think this makes a difference?

To share some numbers, out of the 36 SuperDidis who have graduated from the first level, 10 either started a new business or expanded their business, 6 got new jobs and 14 signed on to become BadiDidis (supervisors). Together they impacted 5290 people in their communities with social work, created 487 jobs and generated over 43 lakhs in revenue. 

Today Gauri has started her papad business, got her food license and employs three women. On the other hand, Reena, a single mother, has started freelancing along with her job by tailoring orders at home. She now dreams of expanding her business to include the women in her community.
